In 1938 Dwight Knapp, the owner of the Knapp Family Restaurant in Garberville, Ca. installed an underground propane pipeline to provide gas to his restaurant. Over the years many downtown businesses wanted to save on their gas bills as well, so they contracted with Mr. Knapp to connect to this underground pipeline. In 1947 Paul Stewart purchased the business from the Knapp family and the name was changed to Blue Star Gas.
Paul brought his son Bill into run the business on a “temporary” basis in 1954 and service was expanded to the entire Southern Humboldt County region. As the city grew, so did the underground utility and became the foundation on which Blue Star Gas was built.
From these humble beginnings, we have grown to cover a service area of over 75,000 square miles and currently serve 16 unique markets in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Utah. In 1996 Jeff Stewart, Bill’s son, joined the business establishing the third generation of family leadership. For Blue Star Gas and our customers, the best is yet to come.
